Jupiter conjunct Uranus is one of a few big cosmic events in 2024 that speak to exciting change, growing beyond the husks that have kept us warm until now, and expanding the ole comfort zone even if that process doesn’t feel great in the moment.
Many people (especially fixed risings & those who have fixed placements between 17° and 26°) are finding themselves shaking off old skin and moving through the tangled webs of life with greater confidence. This is the confidence that comes from knowing who you are without a clearly defined path to tell you who you are, where you are, and where you should be heading. This is enlargement of authenticity.
The last Jupiter-Uranus conjunction occurred during the time that I began delving into astrology beyond sun signs. In addition to that huge window opening, it was a pivotal time in my life other ways: my relationship was progressing, my creative lens widened as I encountered new inspirations (filmmakers especially!) and I started creating differently as a result, I randomly decided to attend one semester of school (where one professor ended up having a profound and lasting impact on my personal philosophy), I started and left my first job, I took the entire length of the transit away from one of my parents & experienced some major healing, and overall, I began reconnecting to myself after years of feeling unsure of myself. I’ve always referred to this time in my life as a sort of renaissance. So much changed. So much grew.
That’s what Jupiter-Uranus is about.
A wild path through the wild.
Jupiter and Uranus only conjoin every 14-ish years – this is a pretty exciting and uncommon cosmic event! Every time this transit comes up we are given an opportunity to break free from things that hold us back, forge new paths forward, and accelerate the growth or healing process that Jupiter is helping us through, and we get an extra boost of confidence to go an uncharted or previously unseen route in our lives. Unexpected moments of expansion are another positive side effect.
Important dates for Jupiter conjunct Uranus
☆ Uranus has been in Taurus since 2018/2019, and will remain there until 2025/2026
☆ Jupiter has been in Taurus since May 16th, 2023, and will remain there until May 25th, 2024
☆ Uranus and Jupiter have been within range of a conjunction since March 30th, 2024
☆ Uranus and Jupiter perfect their conjunction on April 20th, 2024
☆ Uranus and Jupiter separate for good on May 12th, 2024
While the date of the exact conjunction is April 20th, the changes represented by this transit (or any transit, for that matter) are nowhere near one-day events. Something brews over time — throughout the month of April, through the 11 months that Jupiter has been in Taurus, and even since Uranus entered Taurus six years ago.
Throughout this time, something stirs and bends, sparks fly, ideas percolate, pieces are cut to their proper sizes and assembled, and at some point, something new and exciting takes shape… but it takes time. We’ll see this looking back. Seeds are being spread by the wind, but the exact date of this conjunction isn’t likely to be so obviously loud.
Jupiter is traditionally considered ‘the greater benefic’ and is associated with things like growth, expansion, teaching and learning, beliefs and optimism, but as you may know, I’m one of Jupiter’s biggest skeptics. Our expectations are often extremely high when it comes to Jupiter transits and we too easily gloss over Jupiter’s negatives: things like explosive and uncontrolled overgrowth, gullibility, false hope, fanaticism, overconfidence, deluded optimism, instability, getting ahead of yourself, accidents (first heard @thezinewitch mention that one) and more.
Jupiter’s dangers lie in the way that non-native species of plants can wreak havoc on a landscape, how cancer is a disease of essentially uninhibited growth (it’s interesting, too, that Jupiter is exalted in the sign of Cancer– I’m in the process of writing another piece on this connection), and how easy it can be to cling desperately to what ‘could be’ rather than working with what is. Jupiter at its worst is exaggerations, lies, and the always-open market for false hope. It’s the way that hope and faith can become mangled and warped into gullibility and fanaticism. It’s taking on far more than you can actually handle. Making plans or decisions when you’re under the influence of an intoxicating substance, love, lust, or a simple good mood that come with unforeseen consequences. When Uranus joins forces with this energy, yes, it’s possible that these Jupiterian dangers spin out in unexpected ways.
That all being said, this is truly an exciting transit. Big steps forward. Changes that catapult us into greater stability. Accelerated healing. Exciting introductions. Explosive, regenerative pleasure. Unexpected opportunities. Welcome change (even if it kinda sucks at first). Because it takes place in Taurus this time, it may not be the smoothest change – Taurus likes things to be reliably consistent, and Uranus is the ever-changing quest for authenticity and innovation. You want stability and abundance? Uranus tells you what has to change in order for you to have it.
Recent history of the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction
The last two Jupiter-Uranus conjunctions occurred around the time of two major milestones in the history of social media. Three months after the 1997 conjunction, in the sign of Aquarius, the very first social media platform, SixDegrees, was launched. In the midst of the three exact Jupiter-Uranus conjunctions in 2010, in the signs of Pisces and Aries, Instagram was launched.
During the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction before that, in 1983, in Sagittarius, the first cell phone became commercially available. The cell phone was even approved within four days of the final of three exact conjunctions between Jupiter and Uranus!
The Jupiter-Uranus conjunction before that one was in 1968-1969, in Libra. They conjoined three times during this period, and on the exact day of the final conjunction, humans set foot on the moon for the very first time. Amazingly, that exact conjunction occurred one degree from the moon, for an insanely literal manifestation!
Look back to these last conjunctions in your life – what happened during the second half of 2010? What about early 1997? What about the other times, if you were around back then?
