Demystifying the month of October: a forecast
+ entering year THREE of The Nest!
October is a popular contender for the title of Most Magical Month of the Year, and though personally my vote goes to May or June, I accept that October is a special month. If nothing else, the earth is screaming what it (and my seasonally-more-depressed psyche) seems to think is its dying breath as it bleeds out in red and gold, and by some accounts the veil is thinning rapidly, opening us up to deeper psychic exploration and connection with the unseen more generally.
As a summer devotee, I’ve spent the last few years curating a wardrobe that makes me at least a little excited to experience this month of the year and right now I’m taking inspiration from the season to return to my 8th house roots and do a bit more delving here in The Nest, and I’ve done that this month. I’ve written a lengthier assessment of some of the goings-on of the month (particularly the new & full moons in Libra and Aries), allowing myself to actually delve into the heart of my 8th house to retrieve the tools needed to dig into and dissect one’s psyche. For the full moon and new moon this month you’ll find lots of questions to open up to your why and the underlying motivations that live beneath you. (This is also a theme in my reading called The Root and I’ve just opened my books for this month.)
I also have some fun ideas for special October-centric articles but I don’t want to reveal what they are yet, lest my easily irritated Uranian brain rebel against the vague perception of expectation by absolutely shutting down and losing interest until I’m no longer capable of executing a single idea. 🤠
Also: October marks two years since I started my Substack!
I was on an absolute mission to create my dream life when I built this nest, and despite horrific happenings in my personal life at the time, I was determined to launch this thing and I’m so grateful that I did. Giving myself a space to write about astrology without depleting myself is incredible! I appreciate all of my subscribers so much and I really can’t even put into words how grateful I am to have this space where my work is supported.
Somewhere around halfway through 2025 I decided to make it my mission to use this space to lean way more into the most fascinating and juiciest corners of astrology and explore all the little threads and research I’ve done that didn’t seem right to share publicly. This led to the discontinuation of monthly horoscopes because they had become so draining that I felt like I’d been squeezed dry, creatively speaking, for the remainder of the month. That freed up of much mental space to explore other ideas. Recently I’ve written about the dark side of the moon, Persephone and her flame, things that happen behind closed doors (in the 12th, 4th, and 8th houses), astrology as a branch of capitalism & fast fashion, and more. Writing a variety of paid exclusives and public articles has felt good!
The last of the essays I listed talked about the value of engaging with astrology in a less consumptive way — less “use once and throw away,” more savoring and deeper exploration. This is a big change I’d like to see in the astrology world in regards to transits in particular. One of the ways to do this is by reducing the speed at which we whip through transits.
Astrologers are always doing this behind the scenes. We’re constantly looking deeper into history and what came up the other times we’ve seen the same or similar transits. Every single week I do this when I write the weekly forecast — I look back at past instances of the transits and how they showed up in the world at large and in my life and the lives of the people around me, and I sometimes mention past dates for you to reflect on there when it seems pertinent.
At the end of long transits I’ve written other things here and there to reflect (like this one on the nodes in Sagittarius and Pisces, and these post-mortem horoscopes for Neptune in Pisces which will become more pressingly relevant this month once when Neptune returns to Pisces), and I did a Saturn in ___ bingo on Instagram at the end of Saturn in Capricorn and Saturn in Aquarius, and I intend to maintain that tradition. I want to do more stuff like this! A monthly review might be interesting, but if you have any thoughts on what would make reflection cool and interesting for you, I’d love to hear it!
Anyway, thank you all so much for being here. Onto the monthly forecast!
