DIGESTING: solar eclipse at 29º Virgo • September 21st, 2025
horoscopes & forecast; culmination; processing with muscle
As part of the body, Virgo has historically been associated with the intestines. The intestines are not a passive tunnel through which the food we take in magically descends, but a nearly 30-foot-long muscle. This Virgoan muscle processes and breaks down what we’ve taken in (and, energetically speaking, taken on emotionally, socially, psychologically, practically… the works), absorbs what is needed, and expels what is not. Virgo season at large is a season of intellectual and physical processing, completion and elimination, and culminating at 29º Virgo, this eclipse is a serious purge. A completion, a moment of finalizing, and perhaps even finally understanding.

The 29th degree is called the anaretic degree. It’s the last degree of a sign and thus comes with a feeling of urgency, pressure, stress, and the desire to achieve or complete something. I often describe it as that last minute of a basketball game when the score is tied with one minute left on the clock and everyone’s counting on you to pull it off. It’s a lot of pressure! Some people excel under that kind of pressure; others do better when we can take our time. Interestingly, on the day of the solar eclipse Mars also sits at 29º (of Libra), moving into a square with Pluto in Aquarius, which will perfect the following day. That is quite a bit of pressure.
Ruled by Mercury, Virgo is one of only two signs that can travel to the underworld without sacrificing their body or soul in the process, down into the core of it all, to the center of the earth where pressure is so immense that even the hottest materials remain solid. Virgo lives through it, even thrives through it. Virgo goes spelunking, propelling down 30 feet of muscular intestinal rope, feels what’s inside and shits it out. It’s a 30-foot muscle. Virgo can go deep into things and tolerate intense pressure long enough to understand the inner workings of things. Virgo processes, strips down, and eliminates. Virgo takes in and digests what it sees. Virgo expels what doesn’t work. Virgo must prepare to let go of something lest it become bloated and goopy as an overripe nectarine at the end of summer. Now we all have to!
Finit
Under an eclipse such as this in the sign of harvest, we must know when something has reached its peak point and take our scythe to its stem. Virgo knows when to harvest. Under this eclipse, some will see significant endings as something is eclipsed; it’s on the south node at the last degree of the mutable sign of digestion and harvest. Saturn opposes this eclipse, so it won’t necessarily be an easy, smooth, effortless kind of ending that feels like a simple, clean break. Something is ending nonetheless and it’ll probably feel like a relief, like a weight off your shoulders. You (or someone else involved) will want to rush the ending and hurry to the finish line and it probably won’t be that quick, so do be patient, but make sure you let the burden slide off of you when it’s time. This eclipse is about sweating out the poison and getting well, not continuing to carry and carry.
Questions to consider for this solar eclipse
What isn’t going well? Can it be changed to reorient toward nourishment?
What is draining you?
What is stopping your evolution or making it hard for you to change in the ways you want to or feel naturally compelled to?
What can you just not accept and therefore must remove? What does your body keep on rejecting, no matter what you try to do to deny it?
Seeing into the past
This eclipse is on the south node and thus signifies not only endings but reemergences from the past. The south node, the tail of the dragon, will kick up dust from the past so that we can sift through it, process it, and then sweep it on out the door. Don’t let the shit from the past get stuck to you (or your physical body). You wanna take a look, let it go, and move on. Process, digest, and excrete. Additionally, between Virgo and the south node, tummy issues will be common this eclipse season too, especially around this eclipse.
When interpreting eclipses (and most everything in astrology), we must think in spiraling cycles. The story that is reaching one of its climactic moments of completion now also ripples back through time. The same echo resurfaces every eight or so years, every time the nodes, and therefore the eclipses, are in Virgo and Pisces.
The last time the nodes were in Virgo and Pisces was from November 12th, 2015 through May 9th, 2017, when the north node was in Virgo and the south node was in Pisces. The time before that was June 22nd, 2006 through December 18th, 2007, while the north node was in Pisces and the south node was in Virgo, as they are now. What threads were knit together or unraveled then and are being picked up again now? Does it feel like some cosmic kitty is batting at the same dangling strings? Sometimes we see big, tangible reemergences as the nodes/eclipses come back around – certain relationships kicking up or slowing down again, people from the past resurfacing, job changes, relocations, health stuff swelling or calming, and so on. Other times they are somewhat less material but still notable – we find ourselves picking up or putting down old viewpoints or life philosophies, similar themes revealing themselves in our connections, going back through old photos or writings, pondering similar topics, watching the same movies or shows, reading the same books, etc. Wherever the nodes are transiting in our own charts indicates areas of life where we are seeking balance, growth, and resolution. Consider your relationship with the Virgo and Pisces houses and placements in your chart and how their topics came up during the past dates mentioned. How has your life, your perspective, and the world at large changed in the last eight years? What remains the same? What is finished and ready to flow out?
This solar eclipse in Virgo signifies great endings, culminations, and completions. It turns the wheel and something is eclipsed, and this will come up in different areas of life for each person. Read your horoscope below for more insight on what you’re circling around through this eclipse season.
Horoscopes for the solar eclipse in Virgo
In these horoscopes I’ve written out a traditional horoscope, given each sign an “activation level” of high, medium, or low, pulled a tarot card for each sign (two signs got two cards; the cards were dying to be seen) and flipped through Tao Te Ching to bibliomancy some additional wisdom for each sign.
These horoscopes are mostly written for the rising signs, but feel free to check out the horoscope for your sun & moon too. When reading horoscopes, keep in mind that while these themes will be present for everyone who shares your sign, they are far more likely to show up in substantial ways if the eclipses are making aspects to planets in your chart (especially personal planets), and aspects can shift your “activation level” upward too.
These horoscopes were first published earlier this month, here.
