On November 18th (or 17th, depending on your time zone), we have one of the most exciting, invigorating transits of 2023: a Mars cazimi at 25º Scorpio.
Mars in Scorpio aims to penetrate the heart of the sun, but the sun, like a portal, devours Mars, transporting him to a life lived more deeply. This Mars-sun conjunction feels less like a kiss and more like a deep fuck. The moment at which only the strongest sperm slip their way through the gate of the cervix and into the central origin of all life, the deepest chthonic root of all things good and all things evil, the place from which the universe is born. Inside of her, Mars (in Scorpio, especially) is cleansed and fortified with intense will and clear vision of a future so deeply desired. Mars’ gaze pierces the veil of the future and stimulates blood flow; She is determined, resilient, capable, and ready to burn through the halls of the labyrinth with renewed focus.
The sun brings Mars into her core, and like a knife cleansed by fire, Mars emerges clear, strengthened and ready to do whatever job you need it to do. Think of this as a “forging” moment: Mars is the planet associated with iron, and this transit is bringing the iron into fire to make it more malleable, to create the exact shape you need in order to deeply focus on and achieve your goal, and pierce the barrier between the present and the desired outcome, bringing it to fruition with the resilient strength of iron.
We’ve talked a lot about focus, drive, willpower and action recently, with the new moon in Scorpio conjunct Mars in Scorpio (conjunct Mars) on the 13th and Uranus opposing Mars from the 7th to the 15th. At the new moon in Scorpio I said: The ideal future rarely just appears. It has to be honed, grown, sought out and chased down. It has to be hunted. This new moon in Scorpio felt so refreshing and forward-facing for many of us in part because it was the first uneclipsed new moon in Scorpio since 2021. It added some juice and motivation to an area of life that may have felt slow, barren, stuck in the past, or at least mundane for the last couple years. It initiated a surge of energy in the house ruled by Scorpio in your chart, and the Mars cazimi is another transit that stimulates these same themes — and in a very powerful way.
MARS CAZIMI
A Mars cazimi is an exact conjunction between Mars and the sun (the moment when the sun is within 17 minutes of an exact conjunction to Mars, to be specific). This transit occurs in the middle of a conjunction between the sun and Mars lasting from November 6th—December 1st. While Mars conjoins the sun every two years or so, this one is much more special because it’s in Scorpio, the sign of Mars’ domicile.
Here are the dates of the last three Mars-sun conjunctions:
October 8th, 2021 at 15º Libra
September 2nd, 2019 at 9º Virgo
July 26th, 2017 at 4º Leo
What came up for you around then? This one brings a similar energy, but it’s much more purposeful and constructive (especially compared to that last one in Libra).
This year’s Mars-sun conjunction in Scorpio takes place on:
11/18 at 4:41 pm AEDT
11/18 at 5:41 am GMT
11/18 at 12:41 am EST
11/17 at 11:41 pm CST
11/17 at 9:41 pm PST
HOW TO “USE” IT?
I’m not a big fan of the pressure to “use” astrological transits for our benefit – there is enough urgency and pressure in the world as it is. I almost never put pressure on myself to capitalize on a transit. That being said…
“Making use of” the incredibly Martial atmosphere we are immersed in this month means leaning into intense focus and willpower, and hunting down the future we want. Not just waiting for it to magically appear but hunting it down like Scorpio Mars does. When I think of Scorpio Mars I think of Taylor Swift, Kurt Cobain, Oprah Winfrey, Mark Zuckerberg — people who wanted to get where they were going and were able to keep their focus to achieve the immense level of success they wanted. The focus and drive of Scorpio Mars is unmatched; they are relentless in the hunt.
As Mars penetrates the heart of the sun (or so he thinks), sinking into her “magnet tar pit” (to quote one of the aforementioned people with natal Mars in Scorpio) we are held still until our focus is regained. A Mars cazimi is a recharge. In one way or another we are all replenishing our drive and our vision of the path to the future we fucking crave.
Put the iron in the fire. Figure out what you need to focus on & pour your blood into, and go. Move forward with it. Make a move toward the future you’re hunting down.
MARS CAZIMI-FLAVORED HOROSCOPES FOR THE SIGNS
For Aries, this is the thrill of a risk that pays off because you kept your focus.
For Taurus risings, this is your intense and magnetic eye contact when it’s used as a lure to catch the future.
For Gemini, this is the scent of sweat dripping from your neck as you grind into your desire, urging an imagined future into reality.
For Cancer, this is a tongue slipping between your legs, down to your sacral center, to wherever you birth yourself from.
For Leo, this is an ax splitting through the wood needed to build your steadiest foundation.
For Virgo, this is hot breath in your ear, a whisper that gets your blood flowing.
For Libra, this is the vibration of your material desires as that steady vibration rises and deepens into smoky, blissful convulsions.
For Scorpio, this is masturbating to the image of the self you set out to be but perhaps at some point abandoned, even as long as 32 years ago.
For Sagittarius, this is a dream of a seed you’re planting in your own mind, a vision that starts from within and gestates long and hard.
For Capricorn, this is the snip of scissors on a ceremonial ribbon, breaking the seal on something that will have been stimulated to its edge for years.
For Aquarius, this is the joy and fear of eyes on your bare skin, on the curve of your waist, on the crown on your head.
For Pisces, this is opening the legs of the unknown and looking for the answer.
I'm curious about Taurus.... is it the same for Taurus Rising?
