Pluto in Aquarius: horoscopes & the space between the individual & the collective
(i.e. themes of the next 20 years)
Pluto represents things like truth, extremes, depth, change, destruction and rebirth and all manner of transformation, psychology, power dynamics, intensity, and more. Pluto takes things to extremes and makes them bigger and bigger and bigger until they are inescapable and we have no choice but to look at the truth of our reality. It pushes us to then do the serious excavation work that needs to be done in order for us to heal and change ourselves and/or the world in positive ways. Topics relating to the sign Pluto become really big and polarizing; that sign is taken to extremes.

While Pluto’s been in Capricorn since 2008, we’ve been exposing collective issues surrounding wealth, power (and especially abuse of power), and corruption and dysfunction in all kinds of existing systems.
Capricorn and Aquarius are both ruled by Saturn, so some of these same issues will continue to be very important over the next 20 years as well, but Aquarius is more specifically associated with: social systems, social networks, the people, obligations and bonds to others and to humanity at large, technology (the internet, social media, and AI in particular are important bits of Aquarian technology), community, individuality vs conformity, individuals vs the collective, humanity and humanness, medicine, mainstream vs underground, and more.
On a personal level, the topics associated with the house that Pluto is transiting in our own birth charts become much more pressurized and intense, sometimes even to a point of fixation or obsession, and we go through times of upheaval and change as we come to grips with important realities relating to the house. The same applies to any planets Pluto hits in our charts.
To bridge the gap between individual and collective (as Aquarius so dearly loves to do), it can also be cool to look at the house it’s transiting in your natal chart as an example of what you can personally do to further the collective mission or revolution of the world at this time. (More on this in the horoscope section.)
MAJOR PLUTO IN AQUARIUS THEMES:
☆ Power belongs to the people, not individuals nor corporate or government entities
☆ Intense division between different groups of people & different ideologies; finding it difficult to reconcile differences; social movements; activism
☆ The seemingly-infinite intensification of that division forcing us to come together under common goals & ultimately recognize that we are all human, and we are never going to get anywhere worth getting if we can’t come together
☆ Hierarchy vs natural role in a group; individualism vs collectivism; individuality vs homogenization; social systems
☆ Honing our ability to be still, calm and at peace within a storm; to retain inner stillness in the midst of rapid change; to retain the self within a group
☆ Identity; what it means to be part of something; being both part of the world and separate from it
☆ Mainstream vs underground; the return of exclusivity; small groups; private vs public
☆ Trends; mob mentality; social pressure; cults & cult mentality
☆ Questioning what it means to be human, and flawed
☆ Accelerated technological advancement & questioning technology (how far can it take us? What will we allow it to do? How much has it destroyed us?)
☆ Changes to how we perceive age & aging
☆ An ‘open-source’ approach to life
☆ Huge rises & falls in tech, social media, and information-sharing
☆ Changes to the medical industry
Additionally, while Pluto in Capricorn has essentially coincided with the corporatization of “the underground,” with Pluto in Aquarius I’m anticipating a return to the true “underground,” with many more people rejecting “the mainstream” (for better and for worse) and wanting to get away from the loud hum of society in favor of something literally or figuratively off the grid. It’s important to carefully navigate those urges as Aquarius can be very, very cult-like and isolating.
With Pluto in Aquarius, the internet grows like a weed (all symbolism you can imagine intended) until it becomes so big that it is all-consuming. It’s difficult to imagine it getting bigger than it already is, but it will. The wave will continue to rise until there is nothing left for it to do but break. Issues surroudning the internet, privacy and surveillance, and the impact tecnology has on our very human minds and bodies will continue to grow in importance as well.
Finally (…at least for now), Pluto in Aquarius asks questions about what it means to be simply human. Not godly, perfect, or flawless, but human. It offers the expansion of wisdom around how when we put things or people on a pedestal we separate ourselves from them (and for this reason, celebrity culture as it currently exists is likely to be called into question, as will any way in which we pedestalize anyone or anything, for any reason). Aquarius is the sign that reminds us that while we are all different, and while we are separated by our individual characteristics and roles (many of which are largely beyond our control), there is still something that binds us together: the fact that at our core we are all only human.
